DOs and DON’Ts in Recovering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Adrenal Fatigue
Adrenal Fatigue is a stress-related condition that results in symptoms like exhaustion, weakened immunity, sleep disturbances, and food cravings.
Your adrenal glands are also responsible for balancing hormones, such as:
Glucocorticoids – hormones that balance your body’s blood sugar, help with energy and food metabolism, help your body relieve stress and manage your immune response (e.g., cortisol).
Mineralocorticoids – hormones that maintain healthy blood pressure, manage your blood hydration level, and keep your blood healthy by keeping salt and water in balance (e.g., aldosterone).
Sex hormones – estrogen and testosterone.
Adrenaline/epinephrine – hormones that affect your heart health, make sure that all parts of the body are getting blood and convert glycogen into glucose in your liver.
The following are some of the most important things to do and not do to recover from adrenal fatigue:
Pushing yourself to exhaustion
Sugar, caffeine and junk food
Being critical and harsh with yourself
Eating carbohydrates by themselves
Staying up late and catching your “second wind”
Arising early if you do not have to
Food that you react to or are allergic
Drinking sodas, coffee, alcohol, juice
Making someone else responsible for your health care
People who steal your energy
Taking care of everyone and everything else
The daily grind
Eat real, whole, fresh food
Be compassionate and kind to yourself
Eat every two hours
Get to bed by 10:00 PM
Sleep until 8:00 AM when possible
Eat balanced, nutritious food
Drink water, herbal teas
Become empowered and informed about your health care
Be with people who are concerned about your well being and are helpful in your recovery
Take care of and nurture yourself
Find things that make you laugh
Do things you enjoy
Mild to moderate exercise
