What does healthy skin look like?

December 23, 2019

There are 4 main components of healthy skin

Even Color:

Having even color is a sign of youthful, healthy skin. As skin ages, its tone may fade or become blotchy, and one may develop dark under eye circles.

Smooth Texture:

Texture related skin problems can include bumps, acne, blackheads, whiteheads, and wrinkles.

Hydration:

When skin is dehydrated lots of skin cells shed all at the same time, leaving the skin dry and flaky. The way to combat this, drink more water! Ideally one should drink half their weight (in fluid ounces) of water each day!

Normal Sensations:

Ultimately, if your skin is healthy, it should not feel dry or tight, and there should not be any itching burning or stinging. These symptoms could be a sign that your skin care products are not right for your skin.

Foods for healthy skin:

  • Fatty fish, like Salmon, mackerel and herring.

  • Avocados

  • Walnuts

  • Sunflower seeds and walnuts

  • Sweet potatoes

  • Bell peppers, Broccoli, tomatoes

  • Dark chocolate (with 80-85% cacao)

  • Green tea

Collagen Peptides:

This powerhouse product does so many great things for the skin and body:

  • Skin elasticity

  • Healthy joints and bones

  • Skin and nail support

  • Can encourage a youthful appearance

Dry Brushing:

This is a technique used to encourage lymphatic drainage in the body. Dry brushing also helps to slough off dead skin, reduce cellulite, and increase circulation in the body.

Beauty Products:

About 60% of what we put on our skin, enters our bloodstream within 26 seconds! The ingredients in beauty products are minimally regulated for safety. Look up your products on the Environmental Working Group’s website ewg.org and consider using brands of cosmetics and hygiene products that are transparent about ingredients and safer, such as Beautycounter.

At Nutritional Wellness Center we work to find out the root cause of unhealthy skin through Nutrition Response Testing® and dietary change. We are here to help you design a program for healthy skin!
